Racing fans in Wales and the West are looking forward to the start of the 2026/27 jumps season at Chepstow on the second weekend in October.

Taking place on Friday 9th October, Saturday 10th October and Sunday 11th October, the DragonBet Welsh Racing Festival will feature three days of top-class early season action, featuring the DragonBet Persian War Novices’ Hurdle (Class 1, Grade 2) on the Friday, the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle (Class 1, Premier Handicap) on the Saturday and the DragonBet Cefnogi Rasio Ceffylau Cymreig Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) on the Sunday.

The total prizemoney on offer over the three days comes in just short of £400,00, which will hopefully tempt some of the top trainers in Great Britain and Ireland to reveal some of their potential stars for the new season.

The three-day festival will now be an all-hurdle affair after the British Horse Racing Authority announced on 25th September that prolonged dry spells over the summer have led to Chepstow being unable to guarantee that the chase course would be in a raceable condition.

The largest crowd is expected on the Saturday when the racecourse will operate a two-enclosure layout (Premier and Grandstand). The other two days will be single enclosure fixtures, with general admission giving access to all the usual areas of the venue. Three-day tickets are currently available for just £35 which represents incredible value as on-the-day gate prices are likely to be in excess of £30 each day.
