Day two of Chepstow’s three-day DragonBet Welsh Racing Festival saw trainer Olly Murphy and jockey Sean Bowen repeat last year’s victory in the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle (Class 1, Premier Handicap), this time with the 5yo gelding Daylatedollarshort.

The winner, who started 4/1 second favourite, benefited from the fall of Moon Chime at the final hurdle when the latter was 2 lengths clear at the final hurdle.

Last year’s winner Rambo T, this time ridden by 5-pound claimer Lewis Saunders, finished in fifth.

Race favourite Masked Man (100/30), trained by Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies and ridden by J J Slevin, was in midfield and weakening when falling at the last.

Elsewhere on the card it was a good day for trainer Dan Skelton, who had three winners. Two were ridden by his brother Harry, but the stable jockey made the wrong choice in the opening DragonBet Best Odds Guaranteed Juvenile Hurdle (Class 4), which went to Whistling Dave (33/1) ridden by Charlie Todd ahead of stablemate Sacre Chef (9/4) under Harry.

The Skeltons’ other winners were Hitintheheadlines in the DragonBet Backing Welsh Racing Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) and Northern Singer, winner of the LSL Racing Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race (Class 4).
